I just don’t have time.
Why do we hear the phrase, “I just don’t have time” so often in our culture? Let’s face it. Every human being on good ole Terra Firma, (aka: Planet Earth) gets the same 24 hours which constitutes a day in our life. Then, 365 of those strung together make us another year older. (Bring back any Solar System Model memories from your 4th grade science class???)
Many times we mix up the concept of time with our incessant “busy-ness”. Examples here could be: soccer, baseball, volleyball, basketball, football, hockey, board meetings, luncheons, book club, golf games, church functions, community celebrations, walk-a-thons, birthday parties, 5ks, marathons, holiday parties, concerts, anniversary dinners, charitable fundraisers, craft shows, the gym, laundry, dishes, laundry, dishes, laundry, dishes, AND more laundry….
However, when we add to this busy list: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Sling, Pinterest, LinkedIn, FaceBook, Twitter, Theater Movies, HBO, Showtime, CNN, Fox News the time really does seem to slip away like a melting ice cream cone on a 95 degree day.
How can we get more out of our 24?
The best thing we can do to get MORE out of our own 24 is to hone in on what we are actually doing to fill those 60 minute time frames. It is good practice to take inventory of how our time is being spent. What are we allowing to take precedent for our payback of time?
The famous poet Henry David Theoreau said, “It is not enough to be busy… The question is: what are we busy about?”
